As the owner of Alyssa Meeks Events in Houston, Texas, she helps brides make their dream day a reality.

What is your favorite part of being a wedding planner?

I really enjoy getting to know the couple and their families throughout the wedding planning process. There are so many thoughts, ideas and emotions that are involved in wedding planning and when you get to take an idea/concept and bring it to fruition it is one of the most rewarding things. 

What’s the one piece of advice you share with every bride?

Enjoy the process. Just like the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” planning isn’t going to happen in a day. Planning takes time. I live and breathe by checklists, and I share those checklists with my brides so that they can see what they need to be doing eight months out as well as two months out. 

Do you lean toward bright or neutral color palettes and why?

I definitely lean towards bright color palettes! However, it’s not about me – it is about the couple and creating their unique vision for their special day! I love taking a neutral color palette and spicing it up! 

I’m engaged! Now what’s the first step?

Hire a planner! In all seriousness, a planner alleviates the stress and will be your voice and advocate. The first step is to figure out your budget! It’s so important to set realistic expectations when we are living in a Pinterest world. 

What is one thing you wish brides knew about wedding planners (that they typically don’t)?

That’s a hard one! Trust us! We have seen it all (seriously)!
