Houston Invitation Designer Spotlight Series – Paper Tie Affair

Custom stationery with personal touches galore and an obsession with happy clients – that’s what Paper Tie Affair is all about! As part of our Houston invitation designer spotlight series, owner McKenzie King sat down with us at The Creative Chateau to share all about her business.

“Our invitations blend high-quality design with a fresh, clean aesthetic. We focus on gorgeous color palettes, playful typography, bold patterns, hand-painted florals and ornate accents for fun, pretty, timeless design. Our printing methods include flat printing, foil finishing, foil stamping, letterpress and thermography. From bridesmaid proposal cards, save the dates and invitations to programs, menus and thank you cards – we have everything you need, and if not, we’re happy to customize something for you,” McKenzie says.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs? I love to just sit and explore where I am. Whether I’m designing from my desk in the studio, lounging with my laptop, or working alongside my little girl and pups – I gather lots of inspiration from what’s happening in front of my eyes. Another large source of my inspiration comes from social media and magazines; they are packed with stunning photography and design!

What sets your business apart from others? We use a boutique approach to our design service, which means you’ll get to work with an actual person who methodically designs and lovingly creates your invitations. You’ll also receive personable feedback and suggestions from an expert, have the option to change any aspect of the design, add a variety of embellishments and even match your invitations to the day-of stationery. We’re with you every step of the way!

What is one piece of advice you think every bride should know? You can find 100 blog posts telling you what needs to be on your invitation or stationery, and honestly, none of it may apply to you. In the era of modern weddings, your invitation should be a reflection of you and your fiancé. We’re always happy to share what the more traditional choices are with our brides, but ultimately leave the decision up to them and happily provide suggestions and ideas to help guide them.
