What is your photography style?
In the general classification of today’s photographers, I align with what is referred to as a more moody style of photography. My photos tend to be on the darker side as far as lighting and aesthetics go. I always like to describe my style as emotional. I want people to look at my photos and feel something.
What was your favorite detail from this shoot?
This styled shoot is my all-time favorite shoot because not only was the style something that completely represents me and my business, but also because we had the opportunity to create some amazing wedding photos for a couple that didn’t have the best wedding experience. Elizabeth and Lauren eloped at the courthouse and faced a lot of roadblocks put in place to hinder same-sex marriages (could only get married on a Tuesday, only one judge would take part in the ceremony… things like that), so we took the opportunity with this shoot to create some gorgeous photos for them to celebrate their love. We made sure everything was on point with their personal style as well as aesthetically pleasing for the shoot. It turned out perfect.
What advice do you have for an engaged couple who are searching for a wedding photographer?
The best advice I could ever give anyone searching for a photographer is to ask the photographer for full wedding galleries. All of us as artists tend to show our best work on our social media and websites. Seeing a full wedding gallery that has been delivered to previous clients is the best way to get a feel for a photographer’s overall style and their skill level in all lighting situations.
What are your favorite wedding moments to capture?
My favorite part of a wedding day to photograph are the moments before the ceremony, the getting ready portion of the day. This part of the day tends to lend the most emotional, documentary-style images that make my heart happy. The bride getting dressed with the help of her mother, the groom hanging out and having drinks with his friends, the first look between bride and groom, the emotional anticipation of what is to come translates well in photographs. My passion has always been documentary photography so these moments are what really make me swoon.
What sets you apart from other photographers?
I have been in business for a decade now and in that time, I have learned how to capture a wedding in such a way that each one is unique and speaks to the individual client. Every wedding I photograph is a reflection of the people in that wedding. I get to know my clients before the wedding day whether it’s engagement photos or chatting it up in a meeting before the big day. I want to know what makes every couple tick, and I strive to document that on a wedding day.
