On your wedding day, you’ll be spending more time with your photographers than you will with your new spouse, so it’s important to get to know them — and like them! That’s why we’ve asked husband and wife photography duo Richard and Michelle Bledsoe, of The Bledsoes Photography, to share their wedding photography philosophy and tips for all the brides-to-be. Keep reading to find their number one photography tip for brides!

Ask the Expert - Q&A with the Couple Behind The Bledsoes Photography

Describe your photo style.

To us, weddings are bright and joyous occasions. We feel that our photography should reflect that! We have a photographic style that is bright, classic and romantic, and we know that the product we give our couples will stand the test of time.

What do you love most about being photographers?

As wedding photographers, we love being able to deliver images to our clients that they will forever cherish! We became a husband and wife wedding photography team because we were so disappointed in our wedding photographs, and for us, the disappointment we had on our wedding day is diminished by the joy we see in our clients when they receive their wedding photos from us.

Film or digital?

We shoot digitally to somewhat emulate a film look. Digital photography allows us to be able to shoot more and deliver that film-like experience without the complexity or cost of shooting film.

What should a bride look for in a wedding photographer?

Besides the obvious things you look for when booking a photographer (a photographer whose style you like, who has a great portfolio), you should book a photographer who you can see not only as a vendor for your wedding, but a friend as well! You will be spending more time with your photographers than your future spouse on your wedding day, so it is such an important thing to find someone who you can become friends with and fully trust to capture your day.

Any bridal portrait tips?

We definitely suggest booking a bridal session before your wedding day! Not only is it a great southern tradition, but it is a great time for a test run of all your wedding day bridal look. You get to try out your hair, makeup, your bouquet, how your dress fits and feels, and if you do your session at your wedding venue, get to select spots that you love being photographed at!
