Japanese Island Engagement

We are both active duty Air Force, and although we met in California in 2018, we were stationed in Okinawa and Tokyo in 2020. On Memorial Day last year, I was visiting him when we went to an amusement park at Mt. Fuji. Little did I know, he was carrying the ring around with him all day with plans to propose during a group picture, but he couldn’t find the right moment. After the park, we checked into a beautiful Onsen (Japanese spa hotel). We were getting ready for dinner when I came out of the bathroom and he was sitting at the window overlooking the lake and meditation area. He was looking very, very relaxed and I came over and sat down next to him on the mat floor with the intention of gently urging him to get dressed so we wouldn’t miss our cab. As I looked to my right on the table I saw the ring. When I asked what it was he said, “That’s for you” and got on one knee and proposed. Just very simple and private with a beautiful backdrop. Needless to say, it was the perfect moment and I’m so grateful his original plan didn’t work out, ha. Our engagement photos were taken at Mt. Fuji and here in Okinawa to take advantage of the beautiful landscape that we are lucky enough to be a part of.
