Southern Soirée Wedding Walkthrough with The Savvy Event Consultants

For Kelly and Carlin, a glamorous southern soirée was the wedding of their dreams. Houston wedding planner Alexia McWhinney of The Savvy Event Consultants made it happen! Working with a slew of talented Houston-area vendors, Alexia made sure the entire day fit the couple’s vision, from the tiniest details throughout the reception to the getaway car at the end of the night.
The Savvy Events Consultants team has been creating glam and memorable events since 2006, and their expertise is evident in every part of a couple’s day. Alexia wants couples to be assured she’ll stop at nothing to make their wedding unforgettable!
We chatted with Alexia about her thought process as she planned and executed this gorgeous wedding: how she helped the couple choose the perfect touches for their day and why certain pieces used had special meaning. “Invitations were a classic off-white and gold foil, to play off of Kelly’s wedding dress,” Alexia explains. “We used chiffon tent draping, gorgeous linens, gold flatware, glass and gold chargers, and glass and gold candle holders. Bright florals were the backdrop for the couple’s engagement photos taken at Houston’s Bayou Bend Collection, and the florals were again the highlight as they softened mahogany wood guest tables, adorned custom walls throughout the country club, and hung in a 16-foot ring around the grand chandelier suspended in the reception tent. It was stunning!”
“The grand chandelier and floral ring hanging at the center of the tent over the dance floor was a show stopper, and hung just low enough that it was more than just a light fixture, it was the reception centerpiece,” Alexia says. Pops of gold added sophistication and pizazz to the blush and plum color palette, accentuated with grandiose bouquets and greenery adding life to every nook.
Alexia’s wedding planning philosophy can be summed up with this: “I believe weddings are about the experience as a whole, from the moment guests receive their invitation, to the moment the DJ plays his last song. My approach is edgy, yet classic at the same time, and I believe statement pieces and great lighting can transform any venue a client throws at me. Ultimately, I let my clients’ personalities inspire my design, but deep down I know there is no such thing as too many flowers.”
As for the bride, her fondest memory of the day centered on the ones they love the most. “My favorite memory was me and my husband being surrounded by our wedding party and guests as we danced the night away without missing a beat – I even had a customized beautiful parasol (thanks to my sweet mother-in-law) to lead the Louisiana second line! We obviously had to pay homage to our Louisiana roots!”
