Every wedding we see is completely unique, but when we get a peek behind the scenes, the one-of-a-kind memorable touches become even more evident! Samantha and Jonathan’s lush natural wedding celebration included a cigar bar, a full brass band and plenty of New Orleans-inspired flair.
Leading up to the big day, the couple became engaged atop a snowy mountain in Banff, Canada, started their dream registry at Bering’s and made the important decision to hire Houston wedding planner Jennifer Laura Design to bring their wedding visions to life. Read on to see how Jennifer planned this incredible wedding at The Parador – you’ll take away tons of fabulous ideas for your own celebration, too! Cheers!

Wedding Walkthrough with TX-NOLA Flair from Jennifer Laura Design

Behind the design: “When planning a wedding, I strive to select every detail with intention. How will that detail work with the florals, the linens, the table numbers, etc.? I’m putting it all together to tell a cohesive story throughout the event, a story that unfolds with the couple at the center. My goal is that every event is completely different from the last, and I thrive on creating beautiful, fresh, interesting and always unique events. This wedding is one of my new favorites,” Jennifer says.

“The reception took place inside the Duomo, a thirty-five foot domed interior — the centerpiece of The Parador. Tables and chairs for 250 of the couple’s friends and family were nestled under the dome. Navy velvet linens topped with terra cotta pots overflowing with blooms marked each table. Taper candles, pillar candles and votives were sprinkled throughout to give the room a warm glow as guests entered from the cocktail hour. The Amalfi china dinner plates not only tied into the color palette, but also picked up elements from The Parador, like the antique tiles used on the wall around the stage.”

Says Jennifer: “We consistently pulled elements of The Parador into the design. Nib and Pixel used the pattern of the carpet in the invitation liner. I was inspired by the Byzantine tiles on the stage in the Duomo and chose dinner plates to mimic them. The Parador is filled with natural wood finishes so any elements we brought in needed to feel like they belonged there. For example, the welcome table we brought in was an old reclaimed wine tasting table that felt true to the space and like it should have always been there. The terra cotta compotes we used to house the floral centerpieces felt like they could have been made from The Parador‘s clay roof tiles.”

From the bride, Samantha: “It was important to me to choose a planner who understood my vision. I’m a visual person who at times experiences difficultly expressing myself verbally. Finding someone who has a similar taste and can also understand my occasional gibberish was truly essential. Jennifer did that and more! She listened to my design wants and needs and polished them together to make perfect sense.”
